Action. Who needs action. Jean-Pierre Melville doesn't. This dark story of the French Resistance during WWII is paced. The story of a small group of fighters who go about the mundane existance of day-to-day life. The choices they make are not happy choices, but the make them in order to stay alive and keep fighting. There is no glory for these fighters. Beautiful yet sad. No one likes the choices they have to make, but they make them anyway in order to keep on fighting. Lino Ventura and Simone Signoret highlight a wonderful cast that shines.
